Noosa River Fishing Report

This week the river has been producing some ripper fish with Bream, Flathead, Trevally and Mangrove Jack all biting. There’s been plenty of Bream and Grunter around once again with them taking nicely to prawns and worms. They’ve been most common around woods bay and the Sofitel Bridge. Flathead have been spotted in and around the banks of Goat Island with them favouring the outgoing tide. There’s been reports of some good sized Trevally out at the river mouth on the high tide, and Mangrove Jack have been making an appearance on the shallow banks of Sheep Island and the Noosa Marina. We should see a few showers today and tomorrow with is hopefully fining up into next week whilst we will have cooler temperatures of around 19 degrees on Sunday so remember to take a jumper if you’re heading out.

Until next week, Good luck from the boys at O Boats

The river mouth has been firing with good catches of trevally, flathead, bream and the odd tailor with live baits such as herring and prawns producing the best results. Weyba Creek and the back of Noosa Sound is worth a try for mangrove jack around the structures using surface lures such as poppers. When targeting Mangrove Jack your best to fish at the early hours of the morning and the late hours of the afternoon. Bream as always are surrounding structures such as the boathouse and sound bridge. The best baits for bream include prawns and worms. Both tides are fishing well but if you can avoid the bottom of the low tide. There are a few sand crabs up towards Weyba creek and the Noosa sound area with whole mullet and reef fish frames providing the best results. The weather is a bit scattered with the odd shower rolling through. The best time to get out on the water is early in the morning.
Until next week good luck from the boys at O Boats.

The Noosa River has seen some great fish over the past week. The river mouth has been a highlight spot with several giant trevally and the occasional tailor caught. There has been lots of bream in the river mainly around deeper holes, structures and rock surfaces such as the river mouth. There has been several reports of mangrove jack caught in Woods bay using mullet strips and pilchard fillets. Flathead have been around in numbers surrounding sandflats such as the one between Makepeace Island and the Tewantin ferry crossing. Lures such as soft plastics and prawns are the best baits. Around Lake Cooroibah there has been some trevally caught on mullet strips and prawns. The weather forecast shows that it’s going to be a fantastic weekend ahead. A great time to launch/hire a boat and get out on the water.

Dustin's Jack

Shout out to Dustin Mann, a local angler who fought this ripper mangrove jack!

Flathead have been caught near the river mouth around the drop offs and sand flats. The best bait for flathead is pilchards and live bait fish although the soft plastics also tend to bring in the flatty. Bream are known to eat just about anything although prawns and worms tend to be the preferred baits. The best place to drop a line for bream is the Sound bridge. There has been reports of good size whiting in Woods Bay and the frying pan. Live baits such as worms and yabbies are always the best way to target whiting.Early in the morning on the high tide around the Noosa sound there has been reports of some nice mangrove jack being caught using lures such as soft plastics. There has been an influx of crabs in the Noosa river although most are jennys. When targeting crabs, the best spot to drop a pot or two is around lake Cooroiobah and Makepeace island using mullet or fish frames. The weather is tipped to be fantastic this weekend, the winds are down and the sun is out, now is a great time to drop a line.
